With Microsoft trying to keep the price down with their next Xbox console and Nintendo always looking how to make their system more cost effective for them and cheaper for the gamer, I think the console wars have just taken a whole new direction and we could see Sony pulling the same mistake Nintendo made with the N64, thinking and honestly believing that whatever they come out with will out sell anyone.

of course anyone who thinks that is a friggen idiot.

Ps2 will launch for $299 just like their last two systems. Components will be cheaper when it launches & they will be more willing to accept a loss on PS3 than on PSX. Whoever did this report failed to take these things into account.

I knew the price of the PS3 was going to be expensive as I predicted but at $500.00 this is MAD expensive and out of the reaches of most parents who are looking to spend this type of money on a console. If MS comes out at $299.00 they will have a very good chance.

How much does a DVD recorder cost on its own? This may not be a bad deal if you consider the DVR and PS3 combo.

sony just isn't that friggging stupid, I for one won't be buying ANY sytem that will cost that, if thats the price there gonna cost I'm gonna wait quite a while until they go down to a more reasonable price becasue for $500 you can buy a little cheap computer, it wouldn't be a very good computer but still, you shouldn't be able to buy a computer for the price of a game console.

Well take into affect how much is going into R&D for the cell chip. IF the cell is even going to be in the PS3. But DVRs cost about 800 bucks alone now.
But for 599 it is a bit of a steal in someways. But also mad expensive. Id rather go with Tivo style then DVR.

At $500, I don't think many casual gamers will shell out that kind of cash, nor hardcore gamers for that matter, unless they just have bankroll that won't quit!

I wish that the PS3 did come out for $500. That way Xbox2 would sell a lot better and Xbox2 gets all the great games first, like GTA and MGS.

How was that the worst post ever? Xbox2 would sell better if ps3 stayed at 500. Either way xbox2 is going to beat ps3 hands down. Who wants a POS with a dvd recorder its a Console FFS not a dvd recorder with a "bad graphics game" function.

I got one for £120, best one Philips makes, no reduction in cost and brand new so it isnt that good. I also got a DMR (tivo like thing) for £90. And considering this is "ripp-off britain" that aint bad. So it isnt *that* good a deal.

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty good price for what you're getting. Sure, it's not cheap - particularly for a console - but not too bad either. Personally, I hope the Xbox 2 is cheaper, but thats really more a matter of me being more interested in the system.

Honestly, for the right system (preferably an Xbox 2 with a user upgradable HD, and HD-DVD.) I'd pay 400$ so the Sony doesn't strike me as too terribly bad.

A new analyst report has "CLAIMED" the PS3 will have a launch price of $499..............Quit taking EVERYTHING you read as the TRUTH!

This thing is not due out for 2 more years............they dont know the price of this thing any more than the man on the moon!

i'll buy it for $299.99 depending on the movies and games that will come out on the system,thats y i will be wise to wait a month or two after its release to buy it.

I think that is just simply wayy too much for a console. However, if Sony does bring that expensive behemoth out, they should make a streamlined version of the PS3 for their 'smart' userbase.

I would pay 500 for a console with the technology that we are just starting to tap into.
Trying to keep up with technology upgrading my comp is spendy enough,
with a console the investment will at least last 2 to 3 years.

$499 isnt a bad price for one of the premier blu-ray disk machines/player.
