Microsoft Give Up Sports Titles to Take Two |

Take-Two recently announced they had acquired Indie Build, located in Salt Lake City - responsible for Amped and Links and the Paris-based Power and Magic Developments, developers of the rather excellent Top Spin from Microsoft. We're not certain yet which label these developers will be assigned to - Rockstar Games, Gathering or Global Star are all owned by Take-Two. According to GamesDomain, the sale was finalized sometime between August and September.
This latest move is likely the last in a year that has seen Microsoft Game Studios cut back on its internal development sharply, likely an attempt to make the division profitable. First, in February, Microsoft cancelled development on the PC MMORPG Mythica (the same that Mythic Entertainment had sued Microsoft over its title).
In March, Microsoft renounced the publishing rights for both Psychonauts and Oddworld Stranger (which have since been picked up by Double-fine Productions and Electronic Arts, respectively). Then, in June, Microsoft cancelled its Xbox MMORPG True Fantasy Live Online. Finally, in August they eliminated their XSN Sports Department responsible for NFL Fever, NHL Rivals and Inside Drive and likely sold Indie Build and Power and Magic Developments at about the same time.

XBOX365 Says
We wonder if the departure of Ed Fries had anything to do with these changes, or if he knew they were coming and decided to bail as he didnt agree with them? It was this time last year that he packed his bags and left the Redmond campus...

I really think that was a stupid mistake! If I was Mr. Gates I would be firing some people unless he made the stupid decision himself!

There must of been an agreement for MS to pull it's XSN line in order for EA to agree to make Xbox Live games for Xbox.

The term "shooter" in sports games could take on a new meaning.
