Xbox 360 Price To Drop On A Yearly Basis |

Corporate Vice President of the Xbox Product Group, Todd Holmdahl has revealed to Reuters that Microsoft plans to slash the price of their Xbox 360 system every year. Many speculated on the strategy that they would apply a price cut just before the Playstation 3 console -- yep that's about right.

Having lost almost $4 billion on launching the Xbox, Microsoft aims to break even within two years with the Xbox 360. And in another aggressive move, the company is stating it is committed to reducing the price of its new machine on a yearly basis.
Speaking to Reuters, Todd Holmdahl, corporate vice president of the Xbox product group stated: "We will wind up cost-reducing the product every year," and given the use of licensing technology rather than buying off the shelf components, Microsoft should easily be in a position to do so.

So the yr after I can buy another one? This is to keep ahead of Sony. The faster they drop, Sony then needs to follow, which results in less profit. And MS has bigger pockets then Sony.

When I heard the system was only going to be 400, I was tickled silly hehe. I spent 400 on my last graphics card, the one before that 500, before that another 400. My point is for what your getting it is a steal. I know not everyone can spend that kind of money but if you want the latest and greatest it is to be expected. So to those of you that bash MS over the price that is just silly.

The online things will make the most money, I think. That way, they can afford to drop down in price. So that they can draw more gamers to Xbox live. Also to fend of any competition from Sony or Revolution, my guess. Great news.

The question is "how much will the price drop each year?" Is it still news worthy if the price drop
is $20 a year? Until we hear exact amounts it's still just prerelease hype.

MS is going to keep droping the price to under cut Sony. Sony will not be able to keep up with the 360 with the price. My geuss is, it may be anywhere to $50 to $100 a yr. This will decrease profits, but will hurt Sony more.

I think they will cut the price by 100 dollars in the first 2 weeks of Playstation 3's launch, but then will be pushed back up to only a 20 dollar cut. It would work i think

I dont think they would need to. They will wait a yr, to get some profit. The PS3 is selling for more then the 360 to begin with. MS will ride that till a yr, then start comeing down on price. |

Xbox came out at a price point of $300.00, then it dropped to $250.00, following Sony's move. Then it dropped to $200.00, following Sony's next move. Now it's at $150.00. So yes, 4yrs and 4 different price points.............history will repeat it's self.

I would imagine that they are putting this info out because a while back there was a SONY comment that said they had no intensions of lowering the price of the PS3 or the PSP like they have with past consoles. So i very much believe that this is news worthy.
