Xbox 360 in Japan: Who Cares?

I don't know how they could say the PS3 will have a wider selection of games. I could understand that for the original xbox, but not the 360.

These people would buy the PS3 even if it were inferior just out of spite.

Still, if it's out early enough and has good enough games, I suspect more than 2% of Japanese gamers will buy it even though they're not planning on doing so now. Unless the Xbox 360 has quality control issues in Japan, I bet some gamers will buy themselves one to tide themselves over until the PS3 comes out.

I'm sure that the Xbox360 will not convince anyone in Japan to not buy a PS3 or Revolution, but it might convince them that it's worth buying an additional system (particularly if it has a year lead.)

They're a different people ya'll, thier entertainment industry has a completely different skin than ours, which is why japanese "love" games wouldnt and dont sell over here. To us its crap, who needs a "love" game? To them its the equivalent of Halo. And so is all the other wierd stuff they love, so naturally an american machine wont get much love. I think Micro is wasting thier time, just make the stuff they like for them and keep most of it over there, problem solved.

Based on the games alone i won't buy an 360 at launch. Even looking into the future there's nothing that realy excites. Gears of War is the only game that has me a little bit pumped but even there I have my doubts. I'll wait for a price drop. An did M$ realy expect to make a big impact on the Japenese market, this cycle alone should have told them that there's very little hope there.

The Sony name is a flagship brand for the japanese, ... and it's one of the last few dominating products coming out of japan .(if you don't count Honda)

Especially as cheaper and higher quality home electronics are now made in Korea and China.

The japanese are not so much "dumb, stupid, or snobbish"...as they are a very nationalistic people who take great pride in the dwindling consumer electronic lead that they've enjoyed for so many years.

It really wouldn't matter if the x360 had 25 "Halo" quality titles and 10 "Triple AAA" Tecmo titles (all with big jiggly brested women). the M$ brand would still collect dust on store shelves in japan. (for a little while anyway)

M$ poses a threat to the dominance that the Japanese have enjoyed for years. to support it would be like treason for them, only a true revolutionary would support it (like Itagaki-San), and I'm afraid they don't have too many of those in japan. (just look at the hive mind mentality in their Manga/Anime',.. seen one, seen em all)

However,.. ONE MONKEY DON'T STOP NO SHOW (as PT Barnum once said),.. mere Polls and popularity contests won't halt the progress of the x360, the box will still do well. (eslewhere)

Mine is preordered and I'm literally "chomping at the bit" to get my hands on Kameo, Full Auto, Demonik, Oblivion, Condemned and many others, ....don't know where I'll get the money but "If I preorder them,. ..they will come".

Just got done watching an "indepth" E3 dvd, and I'm more excited than ever, Holiday 2005 can't come soon enough, (with or without the Japanese)

Japen is a tuff market to fet into. Sony has a string hold. But remember, The first xbox did not bold well b/c of the lack of games and attensio Microsoft gave them. This is why the polls are poor for the 360. They are looking at what the Xbox did, nothing for them. But now Microsoft is given them more love and attension. Once 360 comes out and they see the games and what it can do, they will buy it. Not as much as Sony's system, but more then 2%. Rome was not built in a day. Microsoft has a long road ahead of them with this market. Maybe, if they play their cards right, by the 3rd or 4th system, Microsoft will have a good market in Japan. They just need to focus on building a fan base in Japan, which they did not do for the Xbox. This will not cause Microsoft to drop out though. They wil make money else where. Just give them time. That and all of Japan will be missing out on a great system, shame on them.

Ok seriously guys, first of all, I agree, there is no way in the world that the xbox360 will be a huge hit in Japan...........BECAUSE SONY IS FROM OVER THERE AND THE XBOX360 IS FROM OVER HERE. I do look forward to the event and all that, only because they might give away more information on the product. I myself am most probably(98-99%) sure Ill get the Xbox360 over the ps3 because of the long year wait, the price, and difference in the graphics and specs between the two systems and such probably wont make much of a difference between the 2 consoles. Also, I think sony might be taking the console wars not as seriously as microsoft(I talked to a rep. of sony resently, that was my impression of him and the company). Also I got the playstation and playstation2, so I want to switch it up to see what Microsoft has to offer. And now that I think about it, the graphics for the xbox right now are better than the sony ps2, but I still dont regret buying the ps2.....but what are your opinions of the upcoming systems(NO NINTENDO REVOLUTION PLEASE)

Ok, MS has hired plenty of japanese programming houses including one headed by the former head designers of the Final Fantasy series, numerous japan-centric progamming houses as well. So that does prove that regardless of what goes on the American machine even if very specific japanese-esc titles will be present,little or no attention will come of the japanese market. Oh yes my friends they snub everthing American with purpose, so please save the "PROUD PEOPLE" crap for someone other than me. I by no means am saying we should boycott them, I will buy the PS3 as well as the 360 so i can play everything that both have to offer because i love games, american and japanese alike. like a lot of members on this site, I have been enthralled by the ingenious story telling by japanese anime authors from Ogre hunter to Appleseed, and have enjoyed the addictive gameplay from the birth of video games like sonic and mario brothers,... but the competition has levelled up.

Fact is, doesn't matter how many triple A titles come out for the x360 in Japan, I dont think they will ever buy into the console, at least, not with PS3 on the horizon. It really blows, but its the truth, apparently Japenese gamers want nothing to do with western games or hardware, but microsoft still makes a @$% load of money in Japan from windows and always will, so when the x360 fails in Japan just remember those Japs still buy our American software for pc's, and that is something SONY can only dream of!

As far as I am concerned, Japan is not really a big market. MS will succeed in other parts of the world

One thing you should know about japan is that more than 80% of their population own a videogame system, that means 80% of japan's population play videogames... If MS cannot grab a piece and i mean a BIG piece of that HUGE pie, they'll never accomplish what they're trying to do(or in other words, they'll never be #1). I understand your point, but remember Sega couldnt do crap over there and they where a Japanese based company. But the thing that killed them was their dwindling support for their questionable machines. Now about that, anyone who owned a Dreamcast knows that Sega did just about everything right, but erm , for some reason nobody cared. Why I say that ? Well, the Ps2 loomed over them like a huge black cloud over a wonderful picnic because regardless of history with bad systems(the Sega CD) and horrendous add-ons(the 32x) I thought that the Dreamcast was their saving grace...
First and foremost, it was the only machine(at the time) that could possibly be compared to the Ps2's over-hyped power. Because when it was all said and done, Grandia 2 looked exactly the same as it did on the DC, however the Ps2's murky colors made it look like it needed color guard detergent. Dead Or Alive 2 was another good example, 4X4 Evolution, and several other titles where basically better . But everyone looked at the poly pushing power of the Ps2, and a handful of polys where enough to sway gamers decision to seemingly super superior console. That and 3rd party support for a system that wasn't even out killed the DC before its time. Because lets face it, the developers where doing the same thing that the Sony fanboys where doing...waiting for Sony. I think that if Sega released the DC at the time of the Ps2 then it would be sorta different(besides a cluttered market).
So I don't care if Japan wants to be that way, its their problem and they will be missing something kool for over-rated teraflops. I just think that dating simulators suck.

P.S. What about the Japanese complaints about the first XBox ? Big controllers, Big machine...Isn't that what's Sony's doing this time around !?

As a spectator in this Japan/American debate (as I am Canadian), I would agree that the XBOX kicks ass compared to Sony Playstation and Nintendo.

Japan is a bigger market then 1000 people warrants an answer to. Also remember that the poll was put together by *gasp* a pro Sony group, and was then submitted to C-News to do just what it is doing. Make us all be idiots debating the possibilities.

Its as simple as this... MS will have a hard time cracking the Japanese market, just because Japan sees itself (and rightly so) as technologically ahead of the rest of the world. PS2 won not only on its technical prowess, but the promise of technical advancements in the future. Why would you buy something like the XBOX when your own country (which doesn't have to import it and pay the difference) is producing a product that is set to be amazing?

But everyone is counting out the Revolution way ahead of its release. I'm sorry, but the nostalgia factor alone will make it one of the more sought after items. Especially since the classic games will be free right out of the blocks, so that means you can buy the console, take it home, and then start playing the classics. If you think that Nintendo will really only sell 18 million consoles, then you aren't aware of the whole nostalgic way that the GBA has marketed itself with the classics.

And if anybody here thinks that there is this whole anti-America thing really exists in Japan, you have never been to downtown Tokyo. Japan and America are more alike than you are all really willing to admit.

All europens buyers should boycott the X360 seeing that Microsoft are going to make the US markets has enough consoles by releasing the product on the 22nd November, from a business and marketing prospective I would be worried about pissing offing the non US buyers who also want the consoles for christmas.
If consoles meant for the non US markets are diverted to the US markets I am Msoft can kiss goodbye to any success in Europe and I am sure Sony will learn from it and be much better prepared for the release of thier console.

I agree with both u and crazy gamer , why u ask ? It's because first of all , yes Japan has shown me a lot in terms of games and different types of gameplay. The first RPG I've ever played was "legend of legaia ," the second was "Final Fantasy 7" and the third was "Legend of Dragoon." Let me tell u now that those games changed my life as a black kid and as an Artist. In spite of some of the japanese beliefs I know for fact that a lot of the japanese love America and the people that populate the continent. I say this because u can see it in everything they do from their ANIME to their clothing styles (just look at the way itagaki dresses). Most of their manga shows people that look obviously more white than japanese , lol.
As far as what Crazy Gamer said, I agree with the part about him saying who cares about what the "Japanese" think about the 360 ! I care more about what europe thinks about the 360 mainly because the country is more than 30 times bigger than Japan's bitch-a$$ country anyways !!
