Technologist Genius John Carmack was brought on the G4 TV show for his opinion on the Xbox 360 and Playstation3 hardware difference. The video is about 2:12 in length and further emphasis the challenges developers may face when dealing with the Playstation 3 hardware. (Yea that sounds fanboyish, but he said it not me :P)
XBOX365 Says
The air in this next-generation is beginning to taste a bit different.
Who? His statement is incorrect, developers wont sweat bullets unless there are more systems out for the ps3, and that wont happen, ever. they will lose money with a late game on ps3 and not may developers will do that. 360 is where the money is, and why? Greater install base. Enough said.

I think he's dead-on. There'll be a handful of really sweet games that only PS3 can run; but most games will be cross-platform and won't take advantage of PS3's "peak performance." Bottom line - it'll come down to whether PS3 or 360 put out the better games (halo 3 *cogh*).

more and more people are buying hdtvs every day as they get cheaper.I also dont see dlp sets reaching the calibur of plasma. when you look at them and see the difference in contrast brightness and color on hdtv broadcasts its amazing.the clarity of a baseball field on there is amazing. just remember 5 percent of us is unemployeed so the most that could adapt it is 95 percent in the end i think the max to adapt will be 60 percent until 2009 when ota broadcasts are all in hd.

I think we can stop beating this dead horse. The only question right now is what will Sony do, if anything, to their PS3 strategy after all of this fallout?
What can they cost-cut from the low-end PS3 in order to get it to a realistic gamer's price-point?
I have a feeling they will resort to marketing the PS3 as a low cost beta-ray player, and you'll see it on the Best Buy shelves right next to the other HD players. The only issue with this strategy is there will be very few early adopters of HD players because of the impending format wars, lack of HD movie media, high cost even at $500, and a lack of people with HD TV sets, not to mention the issue with the perceived marginal improvements going from DVD to HD formats.
So they've got their work cut out for them. I'd like to wish them luck, but they've been nothing but a bunch of lying thieves for the past 10 years so I can't bring myself to doing that. :P
The only true way for Sony to make the PS3 sell is to cut the BluRay BS out of the $500 dollar unit completely. Because look at these 2 theories:
Theory #1): If Sony only makes the $500 unit only able to play BluRay games, and also take the HDD out of that very unit, it shouldnt be too bad. Because we already know that the $500 unit will be without HDMI-one distinct specification of ANY HD movie player., and taking BluRay movie playback would suck(as it would be a strike against Sony's BluRay push), but it should cut the cost to roughly something feasible for their fanbase.
Theory #2): This one would do wonders, but I seriously doubt Sony would do something this dumb...They could cut the BluRay playback out of both machines and make them only have DVD/DIVX playback. Even though they are betting everything on this system, Sony should reconsider and realize..whether the games would be on BluRay or not, if they could possibly get the system down to the Xbox360's price....well I think we all know what would probably happen in that case. But I seriously doubt that Sony would like to downgrade the main buying point of the PS3(No, not backwards compatibility this year) but the BluRay tech. Much like Nintendo's strategy, having a 'true' non HD console for at least 1 more Gen wont hurt nowhere near as much as seeing your system sink as a 'true' HD enabled platform. Simply put, as of right now its too risky as far as 'Next-Gen 'format blah, blah, blah....
And as far as the development issues..well we'll start seeing that come into play as developers whine on their many blogs, and as games get delayed much like the story behind Driver 2

People are always complaining about the price. If you want a superior system, what gives people the right to think that all the hardwork and dedication devoted to the project should go unpaid. I believe if people want the PS3, they'll get the PS3, the position the fans stand for has been already decided before the next gen systems were released.

John Carmack is no Cliffy B as far as popular appeal, but his statements seemed measured, informed, and non biased.
as far as the PS3 is concerned,... developers aren't working for free,.. so they'll do what they have to in order to deliver good games.
I don't think we'll be seeing a disproportionate amount of bad games for the ps3 or a lack of ps3 titles.
but I do believe that x360 will have a huge commitment from the development community even if there isn't a huge number of Japanese developers.
if you look at it,.. some of the PS2's best games came from American and European developers. (the same can be said for the xbox)
except for a few notable Japanese developers,.. most of the games from the land of the rising sun are starting to get pretty stagnant.
how long has it been since Capcom, Namco, and Konami really put out something special, other than MGS, Soul Calibur, and a good Soccor game?, these companies combined put over a dozen crappy uninspired titles per year.(mostly so-called "urban street fighting or cartoon based games")
M$ still has momentum, but Sony will be gaining later on.
the real question is,.. How will M$ take advantage of that momentum. time will tell.

First off, Blu-Ray is needed for PS3 games. Example: Getaway. That game is gonna feature Amsterdam and London. 9GB wont be enough. Lets face it, more capacity is always good. Even Team Ninja said that 9GB is not enough.
Second, the BD movie playback is just an added feature just because the PS3 has it so It's a no brainer to let it play BD movies.
Third, the HDD as a standard dramatically helps game development. Remember how it helped Xbox games? It's a shame MS made it a non-standard. Lucky for us techies, the HDD is SATA HDD and upgradable. Don't like the puny 20GB? Take it out and put in a 500GB then.
As for John Carmack's comments, while he may be right about the difficulty of developing for PS3, as a respected developer, he should proclaim his will in making the best of the hardware to showcase his skills. I wish he announces game titles for both consoles instead of moaning about it.
