E3 And Gamer Dissapointment |

E3. Just sorta rolls right off the tongue don’t it? It’s here, all the press work has been finalized, the speeches memorized and now its time for some to “put up or shut up” as one would say. I’m writing this now because it’s like the calm before the storm. You know we’re about to be amazed or disappointed in the things we will see soon and now is the time to just take it all in. Right now we’re anticipating certain games we would like to see such as Too Human, Forza 2, Fable 2 and Halo 3 amongst many others. The marketing gnomes have worked their magic but it’s up to the developers to carry the hype into dollars.
I’m sure there are a lot of you out there that are (and still) very skeptical about this whole ‘next-gen’ ideal. You’ve played the games the Xbox 360 has to offer and it might not have wow’d you whilst others cannot get enough of this digital entertainment lifestyle stuff. So in some ways, this could be a very important E3 if not thee most important E3 of all. And I know – we hear that every year don’t we? The point I want to make is that, throughout the launch of the Xbox 360 and all the skepticism my fellow gamers have laid down on the big corporations, I have seen a lot of gamers disappointed, angered, frustrated and flat-out giving up on the companies we have supported since childhood or in some cases, since our teens. Some have even walked out on gaming altogether and honestly it’s a shame when a gamer walks out on video gaming because of decisions made by the higher-ups.
While I understand how frustrating that can be I just can’t see how one can walk out on a form of entertainment such as video games. Video gaming will always be here until jesus returns. I know a few people who have also looked at games coming up on the horizon and said to themselves… “this is it? This is next-gen gaming?” and simply shook their heads. I like to question what defines a next-gen game and what are we expecting to see? Many shout game play, game play, game play, but honestly, how innovative can developers be to evolve game play without rehashing the same stuff we’ve already seen? Sure there comes along some fresh air like Katamari but how long till we get to the point where developers simply run out of ideas? I predict this will be an issue, maybe not in this generation or even the next but down the line I see developers struggling with new ways to keep gamers entertained.
As worried as I am about the future of the gaming industry, at the same time I hold a lot of faith in these companies and the brains that power them. As we wait for the end to near, here’s a few songs I found to be quite coincidental (by the same artist no less).
