personally, if i didnt already have a 360, this would be very much worth the extra 80$. but i already have one tho, and my TV doesnt support HDMI (just 1080i), so i wont be getting it.
and id get the bigger HD, but at 180$ 4get it, i'll settle for the 20gigs I've got.
contrary to what they say on Major Nelson's interview, this seems to be geared toward new 360 buyers, and the pricing of the HD is a kick in the nuts to existing owners.
so...I wont be picking up the Elite or the 120gig HD until I get a TV that supports HDMI, or the HD price gets cut in half ... whichever comes @!*%.
the only way id get the Elite, is if my 360 breaks down again...which im hoping it wont for atleast another year since i got my replacement last month.

You know, I am one for the Xbox 360, but when I got finished reading this, I was thinking...why didn't MS just took a hit and included a HD-DVD drive? I mean, take a risk just like Sony and Nintendo did. As we can see risks means alot and MS could of had this format wars thing way ahead if they just included a newer drive. Help me out Coola, what do you think?

    Oops. Deleted my post. Here:

I think adding a HD-DVD drive in the system would spike the price up and they wanted to keep it under $500 to have a marketing advantage against the Playstation 3. Also, HD-DVD games aren't happening with the Xbox 360 so why force people to pay extra for a HD-DVD drive who aren't interested in the high-def format? And if they are, whelps then you can go and get your HD-DVD add-on. Lest we forget, Bill Gates declared this as the last format war and Microsoft is a firm believer in High-Def Streaming. I think that's what it came down to.

It is pretty foolish for Microsoft to not offer a 40 or 60 gig hard drive for a lower price, the 20 gig drive is completely useless, and far overpriced at what MS is charging. At least give us decent room for that price!!

This is the worst pricing structure ever, MS just "Cored" the 360 Premium

They should have just waited for the 65nm refresh before they released this. As it is, they'll just have to redesign the system again (well, quite likely little more than the cooling would need to be redone, but they usually make changes to cost reduce and defeat modchips).

It's nice, and if I didn't already have a 360, this would be the one I get, but it's not worth the extra money now.

Not exactly dawg. The Xbox360 Elite is nothing but a true HD version of the Premium in limited quanities. So in case you dont quite have the money for a Premium, you can still get a $300 dollar core and get a cheap $20 HDD(Hopefully its at a decent price point like roughly $50-$60 dollars), to buy you some time to get a 120 GB HDD with a $300 dollar core system which is identical to the Premium. So pretty much you are getting a Premium-ish Xbox for like roughly $350-#375 USD. But wait !! If you dont want the Core version or the Elite version, the Premium can do component in HD quality on a HD(LCD and above(VGA, DVI-D,Plasma and DLP) ) monitor. So is no excuse noone shouldnt be able to get an Xbox360 if thewant one. regardless, the PS3 options are rather silly. If the $500 one can do standard Def(Component and RCA(Composite)), why cant the HDMI-Only $600 version do the same ? Or is a $100 gap not really worth it in the end ?

    Input please !!!!

I do think this is a cool console. But with that said I feel a little pissed that I stood out in thre rain for the first one last year.
I do have the ability to use the hdmi, but honestly there isnt much of a picture difference to justify buying it soley for that reason alone.
Microsoft should give people who bought a premium some sort of trade in value for it and let us trade up. I love the black case but that can be a cheived with a 5 dollar can of paint.

Can you imagine how much content you'd have to buy to fill up a 120 gig hard drive? Admittedly you could fill up a bit with ripped music; but still . . .

At the end of the day it's still a game counsel, and if its games aren't as good as Wii or PS3, all the extra bells and whistles won't matter.

Same loud drive, same giant power brick, same massive amounts of heat, no wifi, proprietary bluetooth headset (ps3 can accept ANY bluetooth headset) and now with HDMI (which 1 year ago wasn't something important).

Makes me wonder when the 65nm version will come out and when wifi will be important too? That will probably be 12 months away and they will release a new SKU for you to spend your $479 on.

Way to screw all the people who took a chance on you MS. I wonder if they will re-issue a new HD-DVD drive that matches the black or will it be white. Won't that look pretty with the wifi adapter and power brick. ouch!

Console makers are pretty much following the lead of the hand held market. Just like how Nintendo replaced the DS with the DS Lite. Who knows. In the next five years we may see yet another version of the 360. I don't mind them coming out with a new version of the 360. I just wish they were selling that 120 gig hard drive cheaper...

Microsoft is not dropping the price of the 20 gig drive, it is still the same over priced $100 as it has been since launch day, and I had a 360 last year before selling it for the money. The 20 gig drive is useless, I constantly had it filled and had to delete stuff anytime I wanted to download something new.

I have more of an issue with the pricing on the hard drives than anything else, if the hard drives weren't so ridiculously priced I wouldn't care, but Microsoft isn't giving their customers a good choice, it's either too small of a drive, or more space than I'll need. I can't imagine needing 120 gigs, I'd be fine with 40 or 60, but I have no choice but to spend close to $200 for more space? That's just stupid!!

Microsoft can lick my nuts with these prices, until they have more reasonable prices I'm not buying nothin

I just hope that MS would come with some kind of HDMI connector so I can use that with the 360 that I just got last week. If they can do that. I'm sure everyone will be happy.

I think this new console is ridiculous. Whats with it NOT having an HDDVD drive?? Why not make a smaller hd and have put in the HDDVD drive? Have they fixed the problem with the consoles yet or is every 360 console still gonna break just after the 1 year old mark??
Microsoft is really making me shake my head lately, from the horrible quality of the system, to the BS customer support, to all the half assed and poorly developed games.
I laugh at this console, they had such a good chance to make the 360 look technically more equal to the ps3. what they should have done is made it.

    xbox360 elite advantages include:
    internal HD DVD drive
more durable and reliable video card.
    improved cooling system.
HDMI output for full 1080p resolution
    80 gig hard drive.

Why doesnt it have a built in HD DVD? ill tell you why. if MS were to install a HD DVD and then have HD DVD games, and then have HD DVD lose the format war *which it is* MS would be screwed. Now if you wait and see who wins Blu ray or HD DVD, you can make the appropriate add on, or build it in.

ms has already said if necessary they will make blu ray add on
