Jack Thompson, the pathetic, attention whore has sent an "open letter" to Microsoft stating the Beltway Sniper was "trained" to kill using Halo. Basically, good old JT (who probably googles himself hourly) is grabbing headlines by demanding Microsoft change their marketing plans to ensure Halo 3 doesnt end up in the hands of gamers under the age of 17. Oh Jack, what a great little world you live in...

Dear Mr. Gates:
As you know, the Federal Trade Commission has repeatedly found that games rated “Mature” by the video game industry-captured Entertainment Software Rating Board are routinely sold to kids under the age of 17 despite the age rating. The most recent failure rate of the ratings on “Mature” games, according to the FTC, is 42%. The entire rating system is a fraud, and “broken,” the latter description aptly provided by Senator Hillary Clinton.
As you also know, Lee Boyd Malvo trained on Microsoft’s Halo to further enable him to become the remarkably efficient “DC Beltway Sniper.” That was reported by NBC News at the time and was noted in Malvo’s criminal trial.
You appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes II and rather revealing and usefully noted that “the cool thing about these games is that they transport you to a world you think is real.” Precisely. Capcom has recently disclosed to investors that your video game industry’s violent games, sold to children, pose a real hazard to the health of the industry. Right on.
The hyperviolent Microsoft Xbox 360 game Halo 3 is scheduled by your company for commercial release in September of this year. The Beta version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17, as the “Mature” rating it will surely receive indicates.
Here’s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.

The funny thing is, he would be going up against one of THE biggest publishers in the world...who has access to more money than any of our mines comprehend. On Microsoft's behalf, they would walk away with a nick in their reputation if he were to win. Yet, he won't.

Your just as big of a douche bag as he is. Its not microsoft selling these games to kids, its walmart sue them. And FYI ive been playing games like grand theft auto and the such since i got my playstation and i have yet to pull a gun out and go on a rampage. This man says games train people to kill, can a game load a gun up and @!*% it to? well if it can the next time someone shoots someone make sure there wasnt an xbox plugged in near by. |

I had to reply on this one, I have to agree with satanicmouse on this one, I have more games then anyone I've ever known an yet none of them has any affect on me. I believe that kids as young as 11 should not be allowed to play games like manhunt, but halo, come on now-- that game isnt even all that violent. I believe that some emotionally disturbed individuals should be allowed to live in normal society because THEY NEED HELP! I believe Malvo probably would have done what he did without videogames! |

Jack Thompson just can't seem to figure out is that there are two kinds of people in this world, the people who believe all the bullshit the media tells them and think that if someone goes on a killing rampage it's not there fault but it's violent video games,movie ect. , and the people who think that the only ones to blame for violent crimes are the people who do it and the only cause is the sick twisted minds of violent people.
Sorry if you can't understand some of what I've said I'm tired and can't seem to focus today lol.
