Call of Duty 2: Best FPS on Xbox 360?
Article by: Andrew Carr

COD2 is rather tasty FPS based in the familiar surroundings of WWII. If you've ever wanted to go back in time and use a scoped Lee Enfield, Thompson Machine Gun or Russian PPSH, then this is the game. If you want to frag, nuke and teleport, then COD2 probably isn't your cup of tea.

Lets get straight into the game, the graphics are stunning, the realism from the
buildings, vehicles and other characters embrace you and ensure you feel as though you have been transported back to the Russian Winter in 1941 or the North African Desert in 1942. The gameplay is great, Activision has done a great job with the Xbox 360 controller - giving you full control over your character.

The single-player mode is a ton of fun. You get to fight in several conflicts, from the freezing cold Stalingrad of mother Russia, to the hot and sticky El Alamein, North African campaign to the cliff assault at Pointe du hoc during the landings in Normandy, France. Each one brings a different style of action, up close, against tanks, building to building, in the trenches and the cliffs..

The missions will take you many hours to master and complete and are compelling and a great training ground for when you plug that white box into Xbox live.

Xbox Live, let the fun begin.
Online gameplay is where it's at, and COD2 delivers well, I say well, but it does have issues. Let start with the positives - the Dolby Digital sound comes into effect during online play, there is nothing more spine-tingling that sniper or laying in wait and hearing the crunch of snow as the enemy draws closer. A quick press of the right trigger and bam, a hail of bullets hits flies across the room and nails your opponent... On the other hand a single gunshot crack will make you jump off the sofa as your detahmatch opponent snipes you from across the map.

There are a couple of problems with online play, some more annoying than others:
Laaaaag. Xbox Live could be renamed Xbox Lag during COD2. Of the games I've played, approximately 1 in 3 suffer from lag problems so badly, I had to quit and find another game.

End of Game. Typically, at the end of an online game, players are dumped back into the gaming lobby, here you can talk smack, bitch about someone and generally get pumped up for revenge in the next game. Not in COD2. Oh no. At the end of the game you kicked back to the Offline screen where you then have to click a couple of buttons to get back to an online lobby - but not the same lobby.... Thats right, you can't talk to your comrades or enemies from the previous game.

Scoreboard. This is a personaly hate of mine. When playing deathmatch or team-deathmatch, the object is to kill more times than you get killed. Not so in COD2. The scoreboard only operates based upon most kils - regardless of deaths against you. For instance, I may have a score of 16/3, meaning 16 kills for me and 3 kills against me, but another player may have a score of 18/30 - 19 kills for and 30 kills against... Guess who ends up at the top of the ladder?

The lag problems are not really the fault of COD2, so I'm hopeful that our good friends at Microsoft are resolving to fix that problem. The other two problems could, and should be fixed with a patch, and in doing so, will ensure COD2 remains the #1 FPS on Xbox 360.

Here's the breakdown:

Graphics: 9
Sound: 10
(btw, the music score is haunting!)
Storyline: 9
Playability, offline: 10
Playability, online: 7
Overall: 8
(9 if the bugs are fixed)

If you haven't picked this one up yet, get out there and go back in time, it's a whole lotta fun!

I have not played the full version of this game, because I do not own a 360. (Yet, like most gamers on this site.)

Played the demo at Best Buy, it was cool.

So the reason for my post, is to let you guys know that Best Buy and Circuit City are selling --->

BROTHERS IN ARMS : EARNED IN BLOOD for $49.99 and then you get BROTHERS IN ARMS : ROAD TO HILL 30 for FREE! :-)

Bought mine yesterday!

HELL OF A DEAL!

ONLY ON XBOX! ;-)

They cant get the online play down, on COD1 it was super buggy i would just chill in a hall with a machine gun, it was impossible to go around and actually fight, though capture the flag was easy
