“Halo 2,” the award-winning sequel to the instant classic “Halo: Combat Evolved” to make its PC debut on the Windows Vista platform.

”Halo 2,” the game that redefined first-person combat and multiplayer action for millions of gamers worldwide, is set to explode onto PCs exclusively for Windows Vista. ”Halo 2” for Windows Vista will be developed by a dedicated Microsoft Game Studios team in partnership with Bungie Studios.

Only for Windows Vista, "Halo 2" will offer gamers both the single-player campaign and multiplayer experience of the original, as well as the additional maps offered in the “Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack.” Gamers will also have the exciting opportunity to build, create and customize their own multiplayer levels.

“Halo: Combat Evolved” and its sequel, “Halo 2,” have achieved phenomenal success on the Xbox video game platform as gamers around the world follow the saga of Master Chief in his battle against the Covenant forces. In 2003, the original “Halo” roared onto Windows PCs. In “Halo 2” for Windows Vista, the action picks up where the first game ended. Master Chief, with the help of a small group of marines, has destroyed the religious artifact and artificial world known as “Halo,” and is making his way back to Earth. There, he and the last surviving Earth forces will mount a titanic struggle against the marauding Covenant enemy. To date, the Halo franchise has sold more than 14.5 million games worldwide with over 600 million hours of multiplayer action logged across Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service.

Halo 2 for Windows Vista/PC? Whatever man, whatever. Unless it can play with other XBL subscribers, this wont really matter a whole lot. This will just give those Sony fanboy's another Halo game to play amongts themselves on PC, not XBL. That and it also gives MS another marketing idea to sell a new OS, and what better way for them to do that with such a great Xbox title than to develop it solely for their brand spankin' new OS !!.

This is pretty simple. MS needs to push their sales of Vista and to do that, it's simple. Make a game that everyone is fanatical about exclusive. People will buy a $300 console just to play the game - Microsoft thinks that people will pay $249 to buy Vista so they can spend another $50 on Halo 2.

PC users are a little more business savvy I think and realize what MS is up to. We will just end up pirating the OS and then the game because it's not really a good game when you compare it to PC FPS. (Halo 2 vs. Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R, Counter-Strike Source, etc...) Never mind the FPS that will be out within the next 6-8 months will offer some good fun (though the story isn't always guaranteed ;).

As for the map editor feature, well it's simple. The PC has had this model where people don't have to pay for extra content like you do on Xbox live 2.0 . That model has been around for about 15 years until the xbox live 2.0 came out. Now things that used to be free cost you $$$ and the console people accept that. I'm sure a map editor will be available for your usage as long as you pay $7.99 and MS gets their act together so they can sell a keyboard/mouse for this "next generation" console.

halo pc sold pretty well, this time they should be able to iron out the glitches and really tweak it for the mouse and keyboard fans. it should only take a small percentage of the bungie team to advise M$ on the conversion. so Halo3 shouldn't really suffer any delays.

this will keep the game in the forefront of consumers minds till Halo3 and the movie come out.

and with WETA studios doing the CGI for the movie, it shouldn't suck like DOOM.

thus paving the way for more record breaking sales. only this time I won't be standing in line for 3 hours

Milk it for all its worth M$. just like Sony milks Metal GearSolid.

Point number 1: in the grand scheme of things, there is very little overlap between those who play on PC and those on console
So MS/Bungie want those that don't play console to have the chance to (buy) play their game
Point number 2: Halo PC (and subsequently Halo Custom edition) had a huge following and there are still people playing and enjoying it (and modding it)
Halo 2 will be popular for PC for a good few years after it has completely died on console
Point number 3: of course MS wants to sell its new OS so making it appeal to (some) gamers by making Halo 2 PC Vista only will drive sales (excellent marketing) and push their Direct X10 (WGF 2.0) right out
point number 4: no-one is making you buy this
Point number 5: a PC OS has MANY more uses that just to play a single game. I would think a single investment of 3-4 hundred Pounds for the OS would redeem istelf within the time to the next windows OS by all the opportunities it will allow that XP/2000 won't in the coming years.

Point Number 6: Map editor. Uber bonus points for the modding community
point number 7: Its Halo. You know you will buy it if you have the spare money for it.
