Having Trouble Streaming Music With The New WMP 11? |
by Coola 9/2/2006 |
 |

Like many people I know, I was excited to hear about the recent Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 being released. Aside from the fact it claims it could stream video to your Xbox 360 (which it can't), it was worth a look. However, after installing it I began to have trouble streaming my media files from my PC to my Xbox 360. That is... until I saw the light.
The root of the issue is that Media Connect 2.0 (the application that allowed streaming from your Windows based computer) is now built-in to Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2. Oh the headache.
[For reference, I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.]
If you too are experiencing this issue, try this:
First things first. Make sure you have allowed Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 to stream to your Xbox 360. To do this, open Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 and click the arrow underneath the 'Library' tab - located at the top. From here, select 'Media Sharing'. Here you will see a list of all your media devices. If it is not allowed already, select your Xbox 360 and click "Allow" so that your media can be streamed. Click 'Ok' to accept the changes.
Once that is done, go into your Media Blade > Music > Computer.
When you go to test connection for your Xbox 360, select 'Test Another Computer'. Select your computer (again) and it should find your computer. If this works, you may notice that not all your songs are listed. Time to re-add your tunes.
Now to add music files stored in another folder, open Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 and click the arrow under the Library tab.
Then click More options > Library > Monitor Folders > Advanced Options. Once you are here you can then manually Add folders to share with your media devices.

Hope that helps anyone who is out there struggling right now. Behold the light!

Yeah, this sounds fantastic. I would be ecstatic if I could operate my 4 mo. old 360 w/o the ring ring of death coming on. Thanks for the overpriced POS Bill. Glad I could pad your richest-man-in-the-world status.

I've contacted customer support you moron. It's about principle. The failure rate of this console is horrifying. I've got two words for all of you "EXTENDED WARRANTY" Oh and btw that's a scam as well.

you have to download the Extender to allow you 36o to connect with your laptop. If you go to xbox.com you should find this program available.

So if that is true, and there is a 6 month waranty... then this person has nothing to complain about. Better then the 3 ps2 systems I have gone through and Sony's total unwillingness to do anything for me.

The point is that it is 4 mo. old console that does not work... I have an N64, Atari 2600, Sega, Colecovision, & NES that all work fine. Some of these systems are nearing 20+ years old! Sending a 4 mo. old console off for repairs is absurd.

One dozen people on my Friends list. None of us have had an issue with our Xbox360s. All but one bought within the first 3 months of release. Im a pc tech, and friends ask me to look at their malfunctioning consoles all of the tie. 99% of the time, the problem is one of three things: 1)bad housekeeping, with a console filled with dust and pet hair, or 2) overheating - bad ventilation, console kept on top of a tv or on the carpet, or 3)pdirty power - too much stuff plugged into on powerstrip. Keep your house clean, keep your 360 somewhere safe and cool, and dont overload your powerstrips. From all the stuff Ive heard about the 360 acting up (again, Ive never seen it myself) I'd guess it's very sensative to the power issue. Too much plugged into a powerstrip or battery can cause low power to the console, esp if you plug your tv into the same strip, and is almost as likely to cause something to burn out as too much power.

Why do people piss and mown when stuff breaks? I mean seriously lets face it. 1. humans are not perfect therefore anything made by them can't be perfect. 2. Everything has to be made fast now and at high volume's. 3. I bet the Wii and PS3 will have just as many breakdowns. You will have a lot of people sayining. "I've never had a problem." You will also hear the ones that say "I've gone through 3 systems already."
You can't compare an older "less complicated" system to a new one. Because with older systems you had to worry about the game working "blowing in the cartridge." More than the system itself. Even they have flaws.
I'm done, I think I proved my point. All I have to say, is just suck it up and either fix it yourself, send it in, or buy a new one. Just like me when something of mine goes wrong.

I totally agree man, I just have had to send my console in to get fixed its bullshit. I have never had a problem with any of my game consoles. And my NES and SNES work outstanding and I have had them for over 15 years, it just shows you that Nintendo makes quality stuff and Microsoft and Sony just make less quality stuff because they are not solely game makers. Well then I must be in that 1% then cause I dusted my Xbox, it was plugged directly into the wall and was in a well ventilated place. The point is that you shouldn't have to worry about any of those things it should just be made better. I didn't play my Gamecube for like six months and it was covered in dust and it worked perfectly when I used it yesterday.

Oh I bet the PS3 will have problems as well, but I seriously doubt the Wii will, because Nintedno is a video game company only, and they make very high quality consoles. I can't tell you how many times I have dropped Nintendo products and they still work fine. I have never had any trouble or heard of anyone having any trouble with Nintendo products.

No the reason Nintendo devices don't break as well as NES SNES etc... is simple ... THEY ARE SIMPLE< the ps3 and the xbox360 are some of the most complex and technically advanced home entertainment devices ever with an astonishing number of compontents....
As complexity and # of components goes up so does the chance of failures from any of those said components going bad or an error in construction. simple as that.
Nintendo consoles are inherintly simplified i mean look at the Wii yes the controller is hitech but the console itself is a florified gamecube, all nintendo consoles are primarily simple solid rocks but they arent complex and cutting edge either

The Gamecube was more advanced than the PS2 and I know plenty of people who's PS2's broke on them for no apparent reason, and I know absolutley nobody's Gamecube who broke. Just because something is complex doesn't make it ok that it breaks for no reason. The point is Nintendo makes quality products that don't break, while Microsoft and Sony at times can make flawed products because they are bigger companies and make more things than just game consoles. It has absolutley nothing to do with which console you like better or which one plays better games, its just a fact.

You guys are tards. Shit happens get that through your heads. There is nothing in any industry that does not have problems there are always gonna be problems with anything that is made until humans become perfect nothing that we make will be perfect. Cars have problems, computers have problems, t.v. any thing you buy has the possibility of failure it is just how it is i don't give a shit what company you are there is always a failure rate. Nintendo is not perfect either I had problems with my N64 not turning on but I am not gonna bitch about it cause like i said shit happens deal with it.

Of course shit happems, but lets see if you aren't a little pissed off when you have to pay 120 bucks to fix a system thats less than a year old when it just stopped working for no apparent reason.
