Rumor - Microsoft Finalizing Buyout of Capcom |

The comrades over at Evil Avatar have been sniffing around... and the smell they're getting is that Microsoft has all but finalized the purchase of Capcom. Yes, this is one big juicy rumor but if it holds true, the gaming industry will be changed forever. Read on to believe.

Word is beginning to trickle down to fitbabits HQ from several independent sources that Microsoft has all but completed the purchase of Capcom. I'm not going to spell out the ramifications if this one is true, but I will mention two words and a number - Resident Evil 5

Note that this is firmly in the rumor category and that's where it will stay until either Microsoft or Capcom can confirm or deny it.

I really want to be happy about this - for Msoft because this'll give them the foothold in Japan that they so desperately need, but I'm worried that after this acquisition Capcom will become boring and stagnant like Bungie and Rare have after they joined the collective. At least this guarantees that I don't have to buy a PS3 to play RE:5.

Man on one hand this would be sweet news. On the other it's pretty scary if this is an early sign of Sony and Microsoft battling for an upper hand on the competition by grabbing up the larger studios like Capcom. Imagine if Sony went after and got Epic. Ouch... These are exciting yet scary times.

I'm not too excited about this. Buying Capcom doesn't allow MSFT to gain ground in Japan. It will just make Japan loose faith in Capcom and turn into less sales.
BTW, Epic hates Sony so no worries on Sony buying them. Of course Epic still develops for them because it is all buisness but they aren't big fans.

Capcom stock up nearly 7% today on high volume. Interesting. And looking at the past years stock climb. It looks like Capcons stock at the very least has been doing very well.

This Rumor has been out for a while and there is a lot of good evidence:
-Microsoft definately could use a Japanese Developer
-This would hurt Sony almost as much as it would help Microsoft
-Blue Dragon success has proved that Microsoft can succeed in Japan and the success of that Japanses
developed game clearly points to what Microsoft must do to succeed in the Japanese market.
-Its interesting that for the entire past year at the Tokyo game show and Even E3 there was little mention about RE5 for the PS3
-If you look at Capcoms developement schedule in the past year it has been full of xbox360 developement.
and thats odd for a developer that never really embraced xbox in the past.
-microsoft is the only company that could afford Capcom. And the purchase, though frowned apon by many Japanese would
be a bold statement by microsoft that they are committed to the gaming market and the gaming market in Japan.
-I see Dead Rising and Lost Planet as Microsofts and Capcons 'trial run'. A million of us purchased Dead Rising and as for
Lost Planet... well I can speak for myself. My tin Copy is presently proudly in my briefcase.

Let me remind you guys of some great classic games in the Capcom camp....... 1941: Counter Attack, 1942, 1943: The Battle of Midway, 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen, 1944: The Loop Master, Bionic Commando, Captain Commando, Commando, Dynasty Wars, Final Fight, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Gun.Smoke, Mega Man series, Street Fighter Series, Strider, Trojan, Willow, Codename Viper, Destiny of an Emperor, Gargoyle's Quest, Breath of Fire Series, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Viewtiful Joe, Dino Crisis, Devil May Cry Series, Project Justice, Resident Evil, Steel Battalion Series, Street fighter Series, God Hand, and Okami. THat is just off the top of my head Could imagine seeing some of these next gen? I don't know about you, but I played the hell out of some Bionic Commando and Final Fight.
