Doom 3 Gory Gory Fun For Xbox |

Doom 3 was as eagerly anticipated on the Xbox platform as Halo 2 - or at least here at X365 it was... Having finally got our hands on the title, I'd love to tell you it's the best thing since, well, Halo 2... However...
We still prefer Halo 2.
We're so disappointed in the 4 player Xbox Live mode - we know John Carmack wanted to "keep it real" and pay homage to the original Doom classic 4 player deathmatch mode. That being said, we shouldn't need to remind Mr Carmack that it's now 2005, not 1995 - players expect, no, players demand to be playing against as many human opponents as physically possible. 4 Players - come on guys - it should have been at least 16
Back to the game.
Single player mode is a ton of (gory) fun. The graphics are super-de-dooper; the visual effects are like something from a Wes Craven flick - set in the 23rd century. The eerie audio soundtrack is what sets Doom 3 above the rest - it simply raises the barrier for future FPS shooters. Play this game at night, in the basement on your big screen with Dolby Digital and we guarantee you'll jump - plenty of times.

Although some have said the storyline is simple, we think it's perfect - you're on a "routine" assignment to Mars - home of the Union Aerospace Corp. "Routine" is what it's not... Residents of the huge base have been disappearing and machines malfunctioning. So, armed with your fists, a pistol several frag grenades and bad breath, into hell you must travel.
The best policy for noobs is to shoot everything that moves, and for good measure, shoot things that don't move - particularly in the (many) dark corners. As you get deeper into the game, you'll pickup a nice variety of weapons and you'll appreciate the value of controlled fire - running out of ammo in the middle of a monster melee is not good for the heart.
Using your PDA - along with other picked along the way will help you figure out the levels on Doom 3, but of course, the main thing is to shoot first, consult PDA second.
Overall, Doom 3 is great fun for single player mode and ok for Xbox Live - we'd prefer it to be the other way around, Xbox Live is the way to go, and 4 players just don't cut it...
XBOX365 Rating 8/10
BTW, there is also a Collector's Edition including full versions of the original Ultimate DOOM and DOOM II—playable in single-player or 2-to-4 player split-screen—as well as an art gallery and a "Behind the Scenes" feature on the making of Doom 3, containing interviews with the team at id Software.

Only 2 v 2 sucks, you didn't see Topspin put one on one only just because of Pong.

Not everyone has LIVE (I don't) so I don't think that LIVE is more important than the single player campaign.

Doom 3 is probably the only game in the last year that has lived up to it's expectations. I give it: 147/10.

I am pretty sure Half Life 2 and Unreal Championship 2 will be better than this. But the only difference I heard that it is from the PC vesion is that the corpses stay on the floor after you waste them(1 player I am guessing).
P.S. And even though it may be considered blasphemous, I might be getting HL2 on Xbox......lol

I think it lived up to my expectations and maybe more.
The single player is far better than Halo2's IMHO and the PDA was a great idea.
The Co-op is good but disappointingly short and void of any cut scenes, you think you're going to get one at the end but it quickly switches to the Doom 3's logo and the game is over. I have not played the multi-player but I don't expect much from it.

I don't recommend buying Doom3 but i definately think everyone should rent it. Great monster designs, scary as hell and very good graphics. The Hell boards are the best example.

OK, The game may be a little overhyped(not very much though) but the Collectors edition is worth the money!!! Ultimate Doom and Doom II on my TV!!! I spent hundreds of hours on those games(years ago) and I bet I can still spend a few today.

Doom 3 was translated to the Xbox from pc very nicely. Certain areas were removed and others added. I beat the pc version and the xbox version still makes me jump. I can't wait for HL 2 for the xbox.

ok, halo 2 was not what it was hyped to be, the multiplayer is, but singleplayer can't compare to halo 1, and doom 3 has a good story, a realistic environment (but that's at the cost of the characters looking horrible), and well I only play single player games, because of the story line. HL2, will defintly rule when all, and I'm hoping they come out with a 360 version, and optimized for the the 360 :D
