Midnight Club 3 is a new racing game similar to Need For Speed Underground 2. The goal is to race your car around a variety of tracks, buy some upgrades,and race more until you have enough money saved up for a newer car. The thing that makes Midnight Club 3 different from Need for Speed Underground 2 is that you can also drive SUVs, motorcycles, and hot rods.
MC3de also forces you to learn different driving ablities to get the most out of the vehicles, making it similar to an RPG. Some abilities allow you to slow down time so as you weave through other cars, revving your car moves the traffic out of the way. It also features a wide music selection for those who dont have custom soundtracks on their Xbox or those who want variety in their racing music.
Joe says: When I went to the store to pick this up for review I was thinking that it might get pretty old after awhile - like most racing games tend to do. Surprisingly, Midnight Club 3 remains entertaining after multiple plays - especially when you have a bunch of friends over.
The gameplay is an arcade style racing game with upgrades similar to EA's Need for Speed series. What I like about this title is that you have a much wider variety of cars than Need for Speed or other racing games. Also, learning different driving abilities and attributes gives the game something fresh and new. I haven't played the previous Midnight Clubs and to tell the you truth I never gave them much thought, but after playing MC3de I may go pick up the previous two titles.
The only problems I've had with the game so far is on a soundtrack note (not that it's a major problem!) the player cannot select single tracks for songs--at least, I could not figure out how to. Also, the announcer's voice for the guy working in the car shop gets boring and slightly annoying at times. Coming back to the soundtrack, the game does have rockstar rockers Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson on the soundtrack, giving it an extra edge over the typical punk and rock soundtracks of other racing games.
Kira says: Well, the graphics are definitely amazing, but that's nothing new, considering the power of the Xbox. Compared to other racing games I've played, mostly the Need For Speed series, Midnight Club has the advantage with a better soundtrack and more customizable cars. Playing it in a group (like most things in life) is much more fun as well, and it has Xbox Live play - giving it an advantage over PS2 racing games. The car shop is easy to manuever around inside, and the overall interface is easy to familiarize with.
The track listing is able to be changed, it just takes a little more effort to figure out. The race-tracks are more arcade-like, making the physics a little more unbelievable than usual but more fun - Forza this is not! The driver can also explore the city by roaming freely around, and can also run over people (and cops!) - sounds a bit like GTA...
There really isn't that much wrong with the game, and with destructable scenery, Midnight Club 3 is a great addition to any racer's gaming collection. Just make sure to share the controller in a group :-)
The Good:

+ High amusement value during races
+ Wide varity of tracks and types of races
The Not So Good:
- Easy to get in a wreck
- Cops can get really annoying in a series race
- Having to hit every check point in a race
