Industry News: PSP Launched

Success. Yea right. Look at the various gaming boards. If it were a success it would be fully sold out yet by the sounds of it, outside of a few major cities there are TONS of PSP stock left. My local Best Buy still has about 200 units left. Similar stories all over the city.
Plus the usual Sony crappy quality is everpresent. I had to exchange my PSP TWICE thanks to dead pixels. Good job Sony on putting more dirt over your quality control rep. I bet they'll count the returns as units sold.

PSP is having alot of issues w/dead pixels right now, it's all over the net and msg. boards. That's a major issue when you're spending $250 on a handheld plus another $50-100 for games/accessories. IMO, the thing is d@mn pretty, but for the price and issues, I'll pass. The launch games are dismal as well.

I'll wait a few months until they fix all the kinks and bugs. Until then, I'll get a good laugh at the people who bought it on launch day... Always wait a few months, these 1st generation things just always have issues.

I will pass altogether.I think I can get a better deal spending $250 on an xbox with Halo 2,Splinter cell CT and KOTOR.

I'll probably get one in a few months. Playing games is one of the last things I think about when I think of it though. I think about all the other cool things it can do. It can play movies, songs, store pictures so it is perfect for my kids on trips and showing family pictures when I see relatives. If you look around the net you see people doing some pretty creative things with them too. They have figured out how to use it as a web browse and to view TIVO content. They have also figured out how to use other sorts of memory cards by using an adaptor Sony made for Ericson cell phones.

Dead pixels are certainly an issue but it will be fixed. I don't see how the DS can compete besides the pre teen market.

I got mine at midnight from game stop and not having problems what so ever . As far as dead pixels goes thats a problem I have read in a article that they had on the units in japan not the us. PSP is a very nice unit far as I can see. I'm not a sony fanboy and I love my xbox but sony did come out with a nice hand held system hands down plus the (wi-fi) kicks butt.

Yea I had to take mine back because of 2 dead pixels. Also, the ring on the back was coming off.. I still love it though....Nice peice of hardware... :-)

Dog, every LCD screen has dead pixles. Just wait about a three or four weeks for those the get warmed up. Cause mostly they're NOT dead pixles. Just unwarmed. After those weeks they should be back to normal. If not then exchange them back in.

It's been such a great success that you can go into any electronic store (best buy, circuit city, etc.) and find one w/out a problem. And when you do p/u the psp, be ready to get back into the car and return it for a new one because you have dead pixels! You're better off flushing $250 down the toilet IMO. Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking handheld, the best I've ever seen, but don't launch a half a$$ed machine when consumers are paying top dollar!

This same thing happened in Japan and Sony knew it was going to happen here. This is why I tend to stay away from any Sony products!

PSP is sweet. I just hope they come out with one with the new micro 4gig hard drive. That sony stick duo crap sucks. Besides that it's a great Gameboy DS/ iPod killer or at the very least competitor.

I personally will be getting a psp as well as keeping my ds. Noone can deny it’s a quality piece of kit, the ds. Although I will have to wait till September 1st to get my psp coz I’m in the uk. I mean come on Sony get your act together. Everything about the psp is rubbing me up the wrong way at the moment, the price of hardware, price of software, dead pixel, short battery life, the fact that Europe like America wont get the sharp screen like in japan and of course the fact that the psp will have been out in japan a whole year before its even released in Europe. I will probably even have to wait till 2006 to get one without dead pixels. All Sony has to do is send over from Japan some psps, there wouldn’t even be any problems with the umd film disks coz japans films are region 2 like Europe’s films. Oh yeah the ps3 looks like a fridge/freezer in my opinion

My Wetsuit is too Small!</br>I used to teach an introductory river kayaking class at a local YMCA. It involved a classroom session and pool time. The lifeguard at the pool was so interested, that we invited him to join the activity in the pool. He learned very quickly and wanted to come on an instructional trip on the river. Of course, being the lifeguard at the Y, he had missed the classroom sessions which covered equipment, gear, clothing, theory, etc.So he came along on a trip and I provided an extra boat, and the required wetsuit (we're in the Chicago area). Once at the put-in, I told him to put on the wetsuit so in the event of a dump, he'd stay warm.Off he went and it took a very long time for him to reappear. When he finally did, I couldn't help but laugh at not only him but myself as well. I had forgotten to tell him to take off his jeans, t-shirt, sweater and jacket! He also asked me whether he really needed to wear that wet suit because he didn't feel very comfortable in it at all!We both had a good laugh and I learned as an instructor teaching novices, NEVER EVER TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED!I still consider it a great learning experience for me!
