Xbox Football: Season Two |
by Jedi 7/11/2002 |
 |
 |
Hello gamers. The Jedi is with you once again for some Xbox chatter and information. The rest of year is shaping up wonderful for the Xbox. Not only are there a lot of great games coming our way this fall and holiday season but it is also time for the second round of sports games to start hitting the Xbox. See the Jedi is a sports fanatic and considers football season the best time of the year. So with real football fast approaching, new Xbox football games will soon be arriving as well.
Yes, year two of the Xbox sports franchises should be very good. Last year NFL Fever surprised a lot of gamers and actually stole the Xbox football title for year one. Well, it will be a lot tougher match this time around. See last year EA Sports didn't have time to make a enhanced version of Madden for the Xbox so they simply ported the Ps2 version of the game to the Xbox. And poor Sega was so late to the table with their game that the Championship trophy had already been handed to NFL Fever. Well this year it should be a brawl.
EA Sports has had a year to perfect a version of Madden for the Xbox and are gunning to take the title back from Microsoft Studios. You can bet that EA Sports took notice that NFL Fever out sold Madden on the Xbox during its first football go round and will do whatever it takes to prevent this from happening again.
Add to that the fact that Sega has bought the Espn franchise rights and will be able to put tons of Espn related items into their football game. Yes, you can bet to be seeing some Chris Berman very soon on your Xbox Screens. The Jedi's favorite Espn sportscaster will be in the game; can you say rumbling, bumbling, stumbling. It should greater enhance Sega's tite and help set them apart from the crowd.
Last, but in no ways least, Microsoft will be back with a new version of NFL Fever and it looks to be bigger and better than last year. They have even added on to popular features that gamers liked from the first version. Now when you watch highlights from the game you will see several more than just the three we were allowed last time. Add to that the fact that Microsoft touched up the already incredible graphics, and added even more goodies than last years version, and you can see why football gamers are drooling to give it a try. NFL Fever was the Jedi's favorite football game last year and he wouldn't be surprised if it repeats again. It sure will be fun getting this three football games together and finding out!!
Combine this with the fact that real football is coming back as well and you can see why Mrs. Jedi already has the oxygen tank ready for her favorite football fanatic.
Till next time, May the Force be with you gamers...Always

Once again Madden will win the crown. No other football games comes close to Madden. It is after all on all the consoles as well as the pc. Fever sucked last year and will still suck. Remember the lob bomb pass that hangs in the air forever and no one can defend against it? Also look carefully at the players feet before the snap... their feet aren´t even touching the ground! 2K3 will be second best...and remember limpdix, Ps2 still rules the console world!

well my opinion is that madden is a great and has great replay value , and is also the best simulator of the sport. nfl 2k3 will rock but it is .....just......not the game madden is.2k3 is too "arcadey". as for fever i have no idea but from reviews that i have read on other sites fever is 2k3 , but on steroids in the graphics department.other than that , 2k3 does a better job. my money is on madden even though it wont have online capabilities.it will probably be online in 2003.hope so.or EA can fuck a donkey.

Sorry, Madden isn´t coming to my house. I think E.A. dropped the ball on xbox live.
The real fun will begin when you can play rivalries on xbox live. Just think Oakland fans vs Chargers fans. You want trash talkin. That is going to rock. Where else will you be able to play someone on house arrest?

I´ve been playin Madden off an on for about 10 years, but EA has taken to long in making it innovating enough. Meager improvements now and then, basically taking their fanbase for granted cause there was hardly any competition. Yaaaawwwnn! I´m tired of it. NFL FEVER and 2K3 breathe a much needed breath of fresh air into a sport genre that was getting stale. Plus Madden won´t be online for XBOXLIVE, so EA and sony can both go straight to hell.

EA has missed the boat, heck they did not even make it to the dock! Failing to support X-Box live is a big mistake. Besides I am tired of them being a port machine. If they want my dollars they need to take advantage of the hardware with in the X-Box, otherwise they can simply keep their titles on the other more inferior consoles.
Having played 2k1 on-line with my beloved Dreamcast, I can tell you nothing is better than schooling someone on line. For me, I will more than likely get 2k3, simply because I am comfortable with the setup as I have been playing the series since it premiered on the Dreamcast. But if Fever looks as good as they say..... well you never know

EA Sports used to have my respect. All those years without changing much, due to develpoer laziness/cashing-in, I would rather spend my money on a developer´s product that brings the genre to a new level.
Sega was my choice for Dreamcast, since they were the best around for that system at that time.
Last year, due to complications with EA and Sega´s releases, NFL Fever was chosen. I was awe-struck!!! Best graphics and play of any football game on any past or present system!
This year, my money remains with the NFL Fever franchise. Their new effort looks even better than NFL Fever 2002, and it has a myriad of gamer-suggested improvements(shows at least you are paying attention to us gamers, Microsoft).
However, I will be keeping my eyes on the Sega franchise to see how they match up. EA Sports will really have to get their stuff together to even be noticed. Even then, they don´t have online capability this year...
I do miss those Dreamcast days playing online...
Those days are about to return...thanks Microsoft!!!

EA IS EA this year will be like last year porting an ps2 football game over with a few more polygons added doesn´t add up to be a great xbox game plus no xbox live = inferior football game.this year´s battle is between sega and microsoft last year sega didn´t have enough time to get a great title out but this year watchout for nfl2k3 this game looks like it´s ready to take on nflfever for the crown as for microsoft i loved fever in fact it is the only football game that i purchased for the xbox ,after playing the demo at a e/b with my friend who was a huge madden fan we both concluded that it was the best football game out !!!!

I have to agree with the majority out there in saying that the real competition is between NFL Fever and NFL2K3. Madden has more easter eggs than the others, but unlocking classic teams isn´t worth my 50 bucks. As for the true contenders, I think it will be neck and neck. NFL Fever is my initial favorite, but the ESPN license will elevate NFL2K3 to that same level. Last year, ESPN Primetime had the coolest of the interfacing, making you feel just like being on Sportscenter. Unfortunately, the game play and graphics pailed in comparison with the other big boys. Now that the respectable NFL2K series is running with ESPN, all hell is going to break loose. I´m still undecided on which I´ll buy, but hopeful in the coming month we´ll get some thorough previews to check out from a more-or-less neutral source.
All Hail X-box Live!!!

I always go for the best franchise mode in a game, and from what I hear NFL2K3s franchise will kick Madden´s ass this time around... I always thought Madden had a slight advantage in that regard, but thanks to the online issue, I already have placed a preorder on NFL2K3, and not Madden...I never tried NFL Fever...how does the Franchise mode in that stack up against the NFL2K series?

The Franchise mode is usually a big draw for me as well. Last year´s Fever Franchise mode was good, but left some room for improvement, as did NFL2K2s. I rented all of the games, to compare before I bought, and the ESPN game, followed by Madden, were #1 and 2 on my list for franchise play. But, Sega put huge concentration of improving that this year, and Fever made some improvements based on fan feedback, so both should be up to the top, both in Franchise mode, and in the graphics department. If Sega can incorporate ESPN Primetime´s good Franchise elements, now that they have their license, they should be the best. But, because Fever´s gameplay is the tightest and most fun of the group, it may just hold a slight lead at the top of the pack. If you haven´t checked it out, go rent it for 5 bucks. It´ll be worth it. A definent fun time for all.

By the way, for those of you that seem oblivious to the fact, computer´s also have games. PC football may not be as good as consul football, but they´ve had franchise modes back since the mid-90´s. Front Page Sports used to be THE killer computer football game, beating Madden every year, because of its deep statistical and franchise elements. Part of the old FPS development team, which was bought out by Microsoft, was used to develop NFL Fever 2002, which is how the game got so good, so fast. Just some food for thought.

Since Sega bought of ESPN rights it would make their game better. so why doesnt microsoft do the same to all rights so when games are going multi-platform it would have extras "xbox only" or was it done already?

That ESPN liscense has been a curse to every sports game it has touched. 2k3 doesn´t look graphically improved at all most of those screens shown are cut scenes. Fever doesn´t look all that different either. All these football games however will be fun which is all that matter!

Anyone checked out the game movies yet? I´ve seen both Madden and Sega´s movies, and have a few comments. One, it seems as though the previews are connect in saying that Sega´s gameplay is becoming far superior. The graphics appear to rival NFL Fevers, and the animations were unbelievable. Download and run the gameplay movie, stand back a few feet, and you can´t even tell you´re watching animated people and not the real thing. Madden, on the other hand, looks bad. I didn´t see a single improvement from last year in gameplay. I had to check the download page to make sure I hadn´t downloaded a Madden 2002 file. That bad. I do have to give the fantasy mode some credit though. When it comes to the draft, you aren´t given skill numbers for a player, but rather receive his 40 times, numbers of bench presses, etc., along with ratings like above average or aweful on his position´s general skills. Selecting a scout button then had your virtual scouts give you a short briefing (in text) of what they thought of the player and his value. The stats even showed a projected round of selection stat. Thats some pretty impressive stuff, and should add to the Madden appeal. Of course, we haven´t seen what Sega and Fever have to offer in this department, so hopefully they´re right on top of this and will have similar, more realistic, features to their Franchise modes.

If you are in to Franchise mode, and want to see an awesome preview for 2K3, check this out. http://xbox.ign.com/articles/365/365396p1.html Man, what a deliema. I may have to end up buying both 2K3 and NFL Fever. From the looks of it, both are bound to be spectacular.

I think Madden will always be the best. NFL Fever was too quick and the lob passes sucked. NFL 2K2 was alright but it will never amount to Madden.

Well, I must say, I am quite impressed with EA´s NCAA Football 2003. I bought it last week and have been playing it non-stop. I think my work ethic may be suffering because of my newest addiction. The offseason recruiting is one of the most fun franchise elements I have even taken part in. I am definetly impressed. With the ability to import your players into Madden, I´ll probably end up renting Madden for a week or two just to follow the development of my players at the NFL level. But, with the 2nd weeks of the Sega 2K3 preview at xbox.ign.com, it looks like 2K3 will still end up having the best franchise mode of the NFL games.

Ahem. that business ´stradedgy´ is that ps2 has sold 10 times more ocnsoles than xbox, and you guys wont admit it. It isnt worth Ea´s money to put madden online on xbox, there arent enough users. its the samething with the gamecube. Oh, and NFL Fever was a piece of crap last year, and according to Game Informer magazine that isn´t going to change. if you guys want an online football title, go for 2k3.
