that Splinter Cell is now XBOX Xclusive (pc however).
So this is another xbox only gem.

Built from scratch(and first) with added extras for the superior console, then dumbing it down months later for xbox and PS2. But for splinter cell, big deal. The Cube can easily handle any xbox port with added effects. Besides who wants to play a third person shooter with the xbox controller(gunvalkarie, anyone?)

Look at history, nes to snes was just a graphics upgrade. Snes and genasys to N64 or Playstation or Saturn moved into 3D. Xbox, PS2, and the Cube are now just graphics upgrades. Games are where the money is at, but by the time you get a significant user base to profit from its time for a new console. The next "barrier" for console systems is online (which might or might not fly - too soon to judge) and right now all three systems are capable of that.

At the moment no one really knows what RARE is going to do. It could possibly go either way. Time will tell.

I´m quite entertained by the comments posted here. I personally own 2 consoles - an Xbox and a Gamecube. I bought the Xbox because I´m a graphics programmer by trade, and knew that it was head shoulders above the competition in terms of the hardware. I also liked Microsoft´s developer support plan - they were 100% comitted to helping teams create the best games possible for the system. That was really the kiss of death for N64 - Nintendo was great at helping their in-house and second party teams, but made the mistake of leaving everyone else out to dry. There were still some great games for the system - Zelda, Mario, Super Smash Brothers, but they all came from Nintendo or their partners. Still, from everything I have read, they´ve learned their lesson, and are promising a good support structure for all design houses this time around. That coupled with the guarantee of a batch of exclusive great first party games (once again, Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.) and a decent (but not excellent!) hardware setup was enough to get me to buy the system. The only reason I never bought a PS2 was because the technology was a bit dated - perhaps if I was in the market for a console when it was released I may have bought it, but now, it´s just too old. I think the release of Max Payne displayed a trend will see more of in the future: games that are designed for either of the two newer consoles will be very difficult to port to the PS2 due to its lack of horsepower. There´s no doubt in my mind you´ll continue to see great games coming out for the PS2, but I don´t think games like Splinter Cell will be anywhere near as good on that system as they will be on XBox (or Gamecube!). Anyways, just my two cents. And if any of you kids want to debate hardware capabilities with me, I´m all ears....

When is MOH coming to xbox? Time to break out the crystal ball...O.k. Johnny, how about Max Payne running on a P4(anything over a gigahertz processor) with a GForce4? Does any console out even come close?

Ricky, to answer your question in short - no, no console comes anywhere near a P4/GeForce4 combo. XBox would definitely be closest in terms of performance, but you are still dealing with a P3/GeForce3 in the Xbox, a config that is older and slower than the setup you´ve mentioned. On the plus side, when you develop for a console you know that your game is going to run on a set piece of hardware - this makes it well worth your time to squeeze everything you can out the target platform. PC games are aimed at the average system when they are written. Programmers often try to make their games scale to the capabilities of the system they are running on (think UT or Quake), but there are limits to this, and the primary concern is really to make it run quickly on the widest range of machines. Currently, this means Celerons running GeForce2 MX cards, not P4s with Perhelia GPUs.

jedi, you´re really slow arent ya, i´ve all but stopped posting on this site... as for being jealous for whats going to the xbox, so far im not missing any triple a titles. and i dont know what rosey future your talking about, because the xbox is dieing and its future is only getting worse with each passing day as more and more titles are taken away from it. every major publication has stated the same thing over and over again " support for the xbox will dry up after 2002". and it isnt mags like nintendo power or psm saying this, its mags like egm and game informer and gamepro.
but you will just go ahead and say "wait till xbox live" just like you said wait till e3 2002" and "wait till e3 2001". what are you gonna plan on waiting for after xbox live to save your system? you people should really face the fact that while your waiting for xbox live and another e3 to save your system, people who own gcn and ps2 are done waiting, eternal darkness signaled the end of having to wait for great titles on the gcn, its time for xbox fanboys to wake up and look at whats happeining, online , in all honesty, will not save your system, there just isnt any overwhelming amount of great titles on it, and there isnt a huge market for online gaming, you only have about 10 great titles and only 2 or 3 are exclusive. ill admit that xbox has THE BEST online of any of the three consoles and theres no doubt in my mind that it will be great, but it just isnt gonna save xbox, the only way that microsoft can save the xbox is if it keeps pumping hugh amounts of money into it.
as for the gcn, it isnt doing much better either, the ps2 is crushing it in sales, and other than nintendo titles, there really isnt a whole lot of great 3rd party titles like the ps2. the ps2 still has the best line up of games for all genres (especially rpgs).

im not sure what kind of games you like tfc, but im into rpg´s and the ps2 kills all the other systems with its exclusive line up of rpg´s :: legaia dual saga, grandia xtreme, .hack, suikedin 3, dark cloud 2, kingdom hearts, ff11, xenosaga, breath of fire 4 (all of theses titles have no plans on being ported to other systems with the exeption of breath of fire and .hack)
as for any other games :: zone of the enders 2, tekken 4, socom, and gta vice city, shinobi, and gungrave (all the titles listed are due out before the end of winter) and vf 4 is going to xbox and gcn.

im quite interested in seeing how xbox live does, if it turns out to be utterly amazing like they are touting it, then i will look back into getting one, becasue i dont feel like paying monthly rates for the ps2 and i dont want to risk buying a modem or hard drive for the gcn which i might not get to use ( im quite dissapointed with nintendo´s unwillingness to take games like ssbm or f-zero online)

Cause i have playd all shinobi´s and NinjaGaiden´s and thay are compleetly diferent type of Ninja games. If you ask me wish was better i coulnt anser.Simply because i liked them bough... But for some reason it almost seems like all this places you get your information from always puts the PS2 on top of XBOX.Dosent that sound funny?Probably if NinjaGaiden was on the PS2 and Shinobi on the XBOX game Infromers will tell you they voted NinjaGaiden over Shinobi just because its on the PS2(The-Best-Selling)...
