Dance Dance Revolution UltraxMIX

Konami's Dance Dance Revolution Ultamix is the latest installment from the DDR team, and the first time we've seen the dance pad on Xbox. Whilst DDR is not your average beat-em-up, shoot-em-up, racing, slam-dunking, slapshotting Xbox title, it is a hell of a lot of fun!

If your not familiar with DDR, here's a quick into:
DDR conceptually is a very simple game. There is a platform with four arrows: up, down, left, and right. There are four stationary arrows at the top of the screen. There will be arrows that scroll up from the bottom of the screen. When the scrolling arrows overlap the stationary arrows, you then hit the corresponding arrow on the platform. And that's it!

Dance Dance Revolution took the arcades by storm a few years ago, and it's popularity hasn't waned since. Mastering the step patterns is excilerating and frustrating (at the same time) and can leave your wallet looking like the US trade deficit at a quick rate. For some reason, millions of people think they can dance like Michael Jackson, even though they haven't worked out in 12 years - highly amusing for the rest of the arcade crowd!

DDR UltraMix on Xbox allows players to practice their bad, bad moves at home on the supplied vinyl mat and then go head to head with the Xbox, or for more fun, get busy on Xbox Live - what a great concept!

UltraMix also offers the calorie-burning Workout mode and (perfect for me) Training mode. The Edit mode gives you the chance to create and choreograph your own 'Spice Girls meets Backstreet Boys' routines, and with Xbox Live, you can swap them with other XBLers. DDR comes with plenty of hot music, slower paced tracks for old timers like me, all the way upto 200 BPM rave tunes for the athletes out there. New tunes will also be released on Xbox Live for a small fee - something PS2 players are unable to do.

Dance Mat
The Vinyl mat that comes with the Xbox version is top quality, and comes with a nice rubber base to stop you from moonwalking all over the floor. RedOctane are also planning on releasing an Xbox kit for their full-on Arcade Mat.

Graphics - 6
Graphics were never the strong point on DDR. The Xbox version is a great rendition of the arcade 'classic'.

Sound - 9
This is where DDR makes its mark. The tunes are top notch!

Gameplay - 8
DDR is incredibly addictive. When you have a group of friends (preferably of the opposite sex) and a party atmosphere, DDR does for Xbox what Twister does for 5 year olds - brings a whole lot of fun to the party!

Overall - 8 (With Friends/XBL)
DDR is a great party game. For those of you who are Billy-No-Mates, ie, play solo, DDR will not be the game to get, however, if you want to have some serious fun, listen to some cool techno-beat tunes and need an excuse to get fit, DDR is a great game!

This game is too hard to pick up and play. There is not enough easy song to play. They should have added a trainning mode that helps you get better.

This game is awesome! with or without a friend its still very fun! i love burning calories and making a fool of myself at the same time. and for once, im a better dancer than the "cool" kids.

Oh, and instead of picking a slow song for begininers, pick a song like .59 or candy heart or mgs2. anythign with a good beat and lots of steps. I actually find the slow songs harder because there arnet very many steps and i lose the beat.

DDR rocks. Enough said.

Oh BTW, English grammar 101- When refering to a person, use the term "you are" or the simplified "you´re", not "your".

Sentance for "your" - This is your dog.

Sentance for "you´re" - "You´re not listening"

yo Nabeshin-

if "you´re" gonna flame somebody for using bad grammar, try looking up how to spell "sentence" @!*%.

anyway, the reason im here is to TOTALLY GIVE ALL PROPS TO DDR: ULTRAMIX!!! this game was the best ever invented for the XBox and it is sooooo fun! and also, wp13? there IS a training mode dude. try it out. i got it for x-mas 2. i need another mat so i can play with my friends. although my room isn´t big enough to accomodate 2 mats, ah well, i´ll expand it. haha

I agree with Lazyboy on the songs. I was a bit intimidated when I @!*% started playing this game because I couldn´t get any of the steps. The fast songs were too fast and the slow songs were too slow. I was always getting E or D ratings. I started again with .59 as he suggested and I´m playing much better now. It took me a few days on the same song over and over, but now I get A or AA ratings almost every time I try this song. I tried candy heart after that, but that song is way too fast after coming from .59, but in the training mode you can slow down the tempo and make it a little easier until you get the steps.

.59 was a good starter for me, but if you really need a slower song to start off try ´after the game of love´ because the steps are pretty easy, but you´ll probably find yourself "adding" your own steps to make up for the space between the beats.

It is possible to change the speed you know. Hold down A when the song you pick it highlighted, and a whole new list of options will come up. For example, "Ballad For You" is only like 68? or something. You could change it to X2 for 136 which is more reasonable. This spaces the arrows out more and actually makes some songs easier. Once you get better and play songs like paranoia (204, 190 for the second one) on heavy it is a lot easier if you put it on X1.5 or X2. Now I´m going to type f i r s t in just to see if it really censors it. @!*%
