Rather than post a column, I’m working on beefing up our review section. We have had four new reviews posted in the last week, and here they are:

Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb by Chad
After producing game after game based on that little franchise Star Wars, LucasArts has recently released a game based on everyone’s favorite archeologist, Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb is an action adventure game set in the not so distant past. Our hero (that would be Indy) is thrust into a Nazi-laden situation, complete with a mysterious artifact that could potentially destroy the world. Indy and his gang of 2 must save the world. Again.

Soul Calibur 2 by Old_Skool
At last Soul Calibur 2 is here (well the Japanese version any way). After so much hype and countless hours staring screens and videos, I finally got my chance to play the game that is being hailed as the next definitive 3D beat' um up of the next generation consoles.

When the PS2 version of Soul Calibur 2 was launched, the majority of people waited in excitement to see just how far the 3D beat' um up genre could be pushed. Historically the high hopes and anticipation of each release was met with disappointment by most gamers. They continually received tarted up version of what they had before. Tekken had failed to add any thing but higher resolution polygons to its predecessor. Game after game, the 3D beat' um genre has failed to bring anything new to this generation. Would Soul Calibur 2 be up to the task?

Okay the only game I am even going to comment about is none other than Soul Calibur 2.

This article said that gamers waited in excitement when the PS2 version came out ? Considering that the whole Soul Calibur game and game engine alike where coded for PS2 compatible arcade board, you can basically say that Soul calibur 1 & 2 where more like a ps2 port. I dont know why Namco didnt ever release Soul Calibur on PS2, but every gamer knows that the Namco arcades systems are basically a suped up Playstation witha hard disk. So all in all the leap that most expected SC2 to be over the Dreamcast launch game wasn´t too much even on the more powerful of consoles(the Xbox and GameCube respectively). It only shows how good the dreamcast game was(and still is).Personally I think that the PS2 didnt have much of a power advantage over the Dreamcast.

But regardless of that opinion, this SC has special console specific characters in it, that are noteworthy in their own right. In the Ps2 version Heihachi joins a more traditional Japanese Yoshimitsu, both which are from the other Namco franchise series Tekken. THe Gamcube has that HYrulian hero Link, and the Xbox version has Todd McFarlanes own creation Spawn. Each version also has Necrid, another McFarlane creation in the form of Necrid.

However gamers, I will be getting the Xbox version because Spawn is a really kool character to play with. Dont get me wrong, but Hehihachi is a relative to the Soul calibur universe. And lets not forget Link, with the Sword of Time, and his sheild, he cuts through his adversaries with his Oot/SSBM moves. Why didnt they opt for Master Cheif or an elite with a plasma sword ? I think that it wouldve helped with sales alot.

i have noticed a trend with xboxers lately. a lot of us used to be hardcore dreamcast fans. how come we know what the best systems are, but everyone else cant seem to understand?? the dreamcast went down (sadly) as one of my favorite systems.

and to mad gamer, one of my homies on here, i know you mean well by asking for master chief to be a character on SCII. but dude, for real, that should NEVER happen. i agree with you about the elite. that would be rad. but i would hate to see master chief have to kill off everyone in the soul calibur series. then they couldnt make a third installment,lol. peace

Thats because visionaries and independant thinkers tend not to be blinded by the Hive mentallity of popular hype(which is really manipulation)Caddy.

I gave my dreacast to my daughter and grandson who still use the old work horse of a console machine quite regularly and its still working fine. If I remember correctly I paid $50 for it about 5 or 6 years ago.

and like Madgamer said, the original Soul Caliber on dreamcast still looks better than anything I´ve every seen on the PS2.

I am glad that there is some agreement there. However there is a glitch in the original Soul Calibur game on DC. Remember that the arcade version of Soul Calibur doesnt have Mitsirugi in it ? Well they had some lame brain with an eye patch, that looked like Mitsirugi. Now if anyone bought SC1, we all know that after a certain period of time, certain fights with Mitsirugi ends up making the game freeze at the Vs screen. ANyone else experienced this problem ? I realized this when I was waiting in line to play SC2 in the ´cades and I was watching a guy with a sword and an eyepatch mimic Mitsirugi, but then I realized that was the DC game that I held so dear. I wonder have anyone emailed Namco customer support about this problem ? If someone asks me real nice I can give them a hyperlink with my entire video game collection on it.

Sorry Mad Gamer 2 it would seem there was a break down in communication with myself and chad. It should have said;

The fact still stays I was let down by SC II in fact I would go as far as saying the Dreamcast still has the best 3D beat’um up of all time.

SCII is by no means a poor game, it is still far better then any other 3D fighter on the market today but it was a sad case of too much hype yet again.

-------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. From now on I promise that Xbox365 and myself will try are best to give you only the best information on games and reviews and mean a S***. And not the fan boy crap you see all over the net giving almost any game over 80% for no apparent reason. I am trying to get the review system changed on the site to a 1 to 10 scale as I do not feel the 5 starts we have works to well.

It would work some thing like this.

3 points or under = The game is a load of old S*** and should never sell any units
4 to 5 = A playable game but with major problems
6 to 7 = A ok game which is at lest worth looking at if not a renting.
8 = Over all a good game
9 = Amazing this is the top level of gaming
10 = Elite, almost no games will ever make this level it is set for the truly elite of games. And In my life there really is only a hand full of games which would make it here.

Halo - Xbox
Half life - PC
Doom – PC
Mario 64 – N64
Zelda – N64
Hunter’s moon – C64

So what do you think does Xbox365.com need a new review system or are you happy with the old one?
