Tecmo, the boys with brawn, responsible for Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden are charged with bringing the latest chapter in the DOA series to Xbox, and, as with most fighting titles, DOA3 promises to be long on action, long on graphics and short on storyline. But you don't care for storyline right? Well, you don't in a good old fashioned beat 'em up! Tecmo and Team Ninja look to DOA3 on Xbox as the ultimate get-together: The ultimate fighting title on the ultimate console. As with the previous Tecmo encounters, DOA3 looks visually stunning, the characters are beautifully rendered, and everyone knows about the old schoolgirl costumes in DOA2 -right?
The gameplay will likely follow DOA2, in that the moves can be as easy or complex as you want them to be, the more time you spend on the game, the more skilled and adept at fighting you will become. Standard moves from the original DOA series should be expected - things like grabbing an opponent's incoming attack and using it against them, the old floaters move - where by you can throw your opponent into the air and combo assault them on the way down - all loverly jubberly stuff in our opinion. Tag Team options always make the game last well into the night, in Tag Team mode, both you and your partner (console or human) can simultaneously attack a single opponent!
Other modes of play that we expect to see in DOA3 are the Survival, Time Attack and Versus, along with our favorite mode Team Battle, whereby players choose 5 fighters each from the 12 available characters (including old regulars Ryu Hayabusa, Bass, Tina, and Ayane) and proceed to kick crap out of each other simultaneously hehehee.
Our guess is that DOA3 will rock the Xbox and easily become THE fighting game for the platform, could it be a killer-app? Well, maybe, just as Tekken and the original DOA series helped push the PS and DC, to new limits, DOA3 could well be the title doing the do for Xbox.
