Counter-Strike for Xbox |

Millions of gamers around the world have found the joy of Counter-Strike, and soon many more will get to enjoy the pleasure of blasting away others with gleeful joy. Counter-Strike for Xbox is due out this holiday season, and is one of the most highly anticipated Xbox Live games of the year.
For those unfamiliar with CS, it started out as a mod for Half-Life. Almost overnight the game spread worldwide and is currently played by 4 million plus players. There is no story behind this game, or even a plot, it is just 3-4 minute rounds of pure shooting. The game is simple really, you choose whether you will be terrorist or counter-terrorist, buy your weapons with money earned throughout rounds and then blast each other, with an occasional objective mixed in.
There are 3 basic objectives that are very simple to complete. Counter-Strike maps objective is to rescue all the hostages from the terrorists and bring them back to a hostage rescue point. The terrorist’s job is to try and stop the counter-terrorists from rescuing the hostages. Destruction maps, or bomb maps, objective is for the terrorists to plant a bomb at one of two sites. The counter-terrorists either have to kill all the terrorists before the bomb is planted, or defuse the bomb, either of which when completed will end the round. Finally the last kind of maps are called SA(don’t really know what it stands for). These maps have one counter-terrorist as a VIP. The objective for the CT’s is to get the VIP from one point to the helicopter without him getting killed. The VIP only gets body armor and a pistol, so it is vital that CT’s protect him. The terrorists are going to try and kill the VIP before he reaches the extraction point. These objectives are secondary, for the most part, killing everyone will win the round and is a lot more fun. With all this killing being mentioned, some may be asking, “What kinds of weapons will there be?”
 
I’m not going to go into great detail on the weapons because I would still be typing if I did that. Instead I will give a few highlights of the better of the guns. If you have played CS before then you are familiar with the arsenal, and from what is being said, nothing new in the weapons department will be added into CS for Xbox.
The terrorists get the original T gun of all time, an AK47. With good accuracy and high damage, this gun is the favorite for most terrorists. In fact, the 3rd bullet out of the gun is called the magic bullet, since when fired it recoils up and if you aimed for the chest, the third bullet may hit the head. Another great gun for the terrorists is sort of an automatic sniper rifle, with less zoom and better rate of fire. Both these guns are the two most highly purchased guns for terrorists.
As for counter terrorists, they get the same basic gun in the damage and recoil departments. First off, the favorite gun of the CT’s is the M-16, or Colt. This gun has great accuracy, and also comes with a nice silencer for added effect. Most CT’s will buy this gun before any other because it is so reliable. As for the CT’s version of the automatic sniper, they have the Bullpep. Again it is the same as the terrorists, just with different recoil and of course a different look.
 
The rest of the guns are available to all, and consist of 2 shotguns, 4-5 sub machine guns, one full machine gun (the para which is rarely bought), and about 4 different types of pistols.
As for protective and destructive equipment, everyone gets to choose from Kevlar, Kevlar and helmet, flash bang, hand grenades, smoke grenades and night vision. Counter-Terrorist can also get bomb defuse kits, which speed up the time it takes to defuse a bomb. In addition to this regular equipment, 3 new gadgets are being added. The gadgets consist of a blowtorch, fiber optic camera, and a riot shield. It is not known who will be able to use these gadgets and also if the riot shield is anything like it is in the beta 1.6 then I can see a lot of people disliking it very quickly.
These guns aren’t free; you have to pay for them. Throughout each round you will earn money based on kills, hostage rescue attempt, and if your teams wins the round. This money can then be used to buy your guns, and ammo. If you don’t have any money, then you don’t get a good gun. But fear not, you can always ask a buddy to buy one for you, or just pick one up off a dead person. Also, as in Halo, you can only carry 2 weapons at a time, but unlike Halo, you have one primary, usually your automatic gun and one secondary, a pistol. You also will get a knife for those oh so humiliating kills.
Gameplay is very simple; kill everything that moves and isn’t on your team while trying to complete the objectives. What makes the game so addicting is that there is a team feel to it. If you don’t co-operate with you other team members by yelling out when a part is clear, or where enemies are, then you will be dead in the water and hated by many CS’ers. I know the Gameplay may not seem as great as many other games, but once you experience CS you won’t want to go back. I have personally played CS for PC for 5 hours straight without even knowing it, it just happened.
 
As for graphics, CS for Xbox will get a boost in that department; it will have better shading and an overall better look. The game itself is still old and will show its age. The levels still don’t look like more then a bunch of blocks (which truly is how they are made), and the animations are still a little stagnant. Even with lackluster graphics, the game will excel because of these three factors; online play, single player, and the ability to send Valve your created maps to be downloaded.
Online play is the heart and soul behind CS, without it there would be no CS. It has always been an online only game, and for the most part so will CS for Xbox. With voice chat crucial to Gameplay, and the enjoyment people get of playing another person, this part of the game will be the most played and the biggest selling point. With the exclusion of 56kers, the game should run smooth most of the time for everyone, which is great news because lag kills just suck.
Valve has also stated that CS for Xbox will include some single player missions from Counter Strike: Condition Zero. These missions will have more objectives then a regular map, with bigger levels, and a larger time limit. Having this element to the game is nice; it is really secondary to the game. Live is still the focal point.
Valve has also stated that they are considering letting players design their own levels and send them in. Valve will then change the script to match Xbox, and make them available for download. If any of you have played CS for the PC you know some of the best maps are user created, and it seems that Valve has also realized this. This feature hasn’t been confirmed, but Valve reps have been quoted as saying that they are highly considering it.
Counter-Strike for Xbox is shaping up to be the best Live game out this year. With added features made especially for Xbox, and a already huge fan base, this game could easily break the million sales mark in a matter of weeks. Counter-Strike is due out holiday 2003, and is being published by Microsoft and developed by Valve.

@!*% pc. im gettin it for xbox because it will be so much better on xbox live then on the internet. there is no question about how much better it will be for xbox live. online for pc wont even come close to xbox live play. XBOX RULES

This game IS condition zero! And yes, IT DOES HAVE AN ALL NEW GRAPHICS ENGINE. I´m so sick of people saying it´s the original with a few updates...It is NOT the original. As a matter of fact, when we run both Halo and CSCZ side by side in the office, it´s apparent that CS is awesome in the looks department.

People, get with the PROGRAM. When it´s ready, it´s ready and you´ll all be shocked at how incredible it truely is.

This game is not condition zero, it has parts of condition zero in it, but it is not condition Zero, valve has stated that on many occasions...and from what i could find i heard improved graphics engine, not new, so that why it says it will get a face lift but still how its age.

That´s funny....hmm...as an administrative assistant to the XB Quality Assurance team, I see the titles and the developers comments. This game, I can assure you, is CONDITION ZERO and sports an all new engine. It may sacrifice details for playability, but it is, as I stated before, a port of CZ. Booya.

Looks dam good to me too.Graphics is definately the true colors of CS. I am a CS player, and the only thing that concerns me is; would they have a quick turn button for xbox controller? Cuz wit a mouse, I can cover 360degrees in a matter of 2 seconds max. Never on xbox.. Don´t wanna get KniFeD now.. 0==(>_<)==>

i know the thing that concerns me as well as drugger is that i dont think u can turn around as fast with the joystick of the xbox controller then with a mouse, and u can really get killed if u dont turn around on time to shoot at the opponent as you will do on the pc version

u will probably be able to control ur controllers sensitivity, just put that up very high. I always found sensitive controls to be very difficult though.

its the same half life engine. just uses better models, textures, stuff like that. but who cares? this is COUNTERSTRIKE WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! i dont care if they restricted you to play with your feet, this is a MUST have above all must haves for me :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan, this preview shows that you have had absolutely NO experience playing Counter-Strike. Me, i play every day for at least an hour and it is THE BEST online game ever created. I reccomend that everyone get a free right here if you have the orginal half-life. If u dont have the original half-life, GET IT. It is a classic.

Valve just says that they are considering on the ability for users to create maps and "Valve to make them available as a downloadable content thru Xbox Live", that is bullshit! NOBODY can make content downloadable thru XBL without Microsoft´s permission. And only high-quality content will make it to our Xbox´s, and as we know, user created maps are PSO, mostly. So you can consider it as a feature that will NOT make it to this game. Official, high quality maps and such might be available... And of course, someone might draw a map using Microsoft Paint and then send it to Valve, and Valve might make the map, and Microsoft will publish it, just maybe...
Anyway, this game´s a killer (currently, I have CS-PC on), and when I get CS XB, you won´t find me anywhere near school :D

Half of the maps that are circulated now are user created. A lot of the big name ones were user created and sent to vavle, who did touch ups and then released them with updates.

oh well aslong its a better game than soldier of fortune 2 for the xbox and graphics of course then itll be a good game oh and by the way will there be a whole new graphics engine for soldier of fortune 2 as downloadable content cos it just aint xbox.

hey dudes i just bought battlefield 2 modern combat and i didnt have xbox live so do you know what i have to say........ bf2mc sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! because you need to have xbox live to go to multiplayer mode and multiplayer has everything you can use every gun cars and helicopters. with out xbox live your stuck with single player mode! it sucks i tell you because you dont have access to all 4 nations i mean common! and the guns and helis oh my god!
